Welcome to The Bower, Laura Reznick’s psychotherapy practice.

What is a Bower?

A bower is a protected leafy shelter, often in a garden and it is a common poetic symbol.

In poetry, a bower is a physical place in the natural world that fosters imaginative and emotional growth. While bowers are physical places, what they create happens in the mind, in language, between two people — in poetry, this is the writer and reader.

In therapy, it is between the client and therapist. Not only is a bower a place which permits conversations, conversations and empathy create a relational bower. Talking together, we create a place that nurtures vulnerability, privacy, and safety; we create a place where psychological transformation can occur.

  • A sanctuary

A bower can be seen as a sanctuary - a peaceful, protected space where one can retreat from the stresses of the outside world.

  • A cocoon

Just as a caterpillar encases itself in a cocoon to undergo transformation and emerge as a butterfly, a bower can be a space for individuals to undergo personal growth and emerge with newfound strength and resilience.

  • A garden

Like a garden that requires careful tending and nurturing, a bower can be a space where individuals can cultivate their personal growth and flourishing.

  • A compass

A bower can serve as a compass, helping individuals navigate their way through life's challenges and guide them towards their goals and values.

  • A mirror

A bower can also be seen as a mirror - a reflective space where individuals can gain insight into their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and make positive changes to live a more fulfilling life.
